President Bush signed a new GI Bill on Monday aimed at providing the full cost for college or job training for those who served after Sept. 11, 2001. The GI Bill will extend to activated reservists and National Guardsmen with benefits paid proportionally to the number of months in active duty.



Jacob Meeks, the president of the Student Veteran Association (SVA) at PSU, an organization recently responsible for helping to raise money for scholarships for veterans and a summer retreat for new association leadership, has spoken with both Senator Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) and Senator Gordon Smith (R-Ore.) about the GI Bill.

On June 18, extravagant donor and Oregon State alumnus Martin N. Kelley died of cancer at the age of 80 in his Lake Oswego home.

Kelley, who graduated from Oregon State College in 1950, made a number of contributions to the engineering department at OSU after he left.

Last Wednesday Terri Irwin, widow of "Crocodile Hunter" Steve Irwin, signed a Memo of Understanding at the CH2M Hill Alumni Center with the Marine Mammal Institute at OSU.

The agreement will allow Bruce Mate, director of the Marine Mammal Institute, to lead two humpback whale research projects to American Samoa and the Aleutian Islands.

Scattered on bulletin boards, tables and phone booths across campus are various fliers and postings for employment, one of which is for workforstudents.com, a flier advertising $12 to $16 per base/appointment. The flier promises students real work experience and the possibility for a highly sought after internship.



Workforstudents.com is a Web site for Vector Marketing, the selling arm for CUTCO Cutlery, aimed at recruiting potential salespeople. The Web site has some brief informational pages giving background on the company, mostly boasting its successes.
